SRE symbolically transfers the keys of the New Riga Theatre building at Lāčplēša Street 25 to the constructor and invites spectators to a virtual tour
On 6 September, SJSC “State Real Estate” (SRE) symbolically handed over the keys to the constructor, general partnership “RERE BŪVE 1”, thus marking the next significant stage of modification – commencement of construction – of the historic building of the New Riga Theatre (NRT) at Lāčplēša Street 25, informed Kitija Gruškevica, the Board Member of SRE.
Valdis Koks, the Chairman of the Board of LLC “RERE BŪVE”, a member of the general partnership “RERE BŪVE 1”, emphasised that it is a great honour for his team to implement one of the most contemporary theatre construction projects in Europe. “We are pleased to work together with a team of such high-calibre professionals. This project also serves as a great challenge – we will have to manage the works without having a construction site, which is characteristic of the majority of traditional construction objects. A construction site cannot be ensured in this case because the construction object is located at the very city centre and Lāčplēša Street presents a regular flow of pedestrians and vehicles,” explained Koks.
The author of the NRT project is the general partnership “Zaigas Gailes Birojs un Partneri”. According to the plan, the area of the premises used by NRT will almost double – from 5,146 m2 to 9,767.1 m2, and additional yard improvement works with area 649.2 m2 are planned.
Whereas the total number of spectator seats will reach 840, compared to the previous 400. Namely, three theatre halls are intended – 325 seats are planned in the parterre of Smiļģis hall, and on the balcony – 175 seats, in the large “Black-box” hall – 240 seats, and in the small “Black box” hall – 100 seats. In addition, premises for theatre café and children's room is planned. Moreover, three rehearsal halls are planned in the new premises – the large rehearsal hall with area 282 m2, and two small rehearsal halls with area 163 m2 and 126 m2.
