A new stage in the construction of NRT – pile drilling
Today, a new stage is commenced in the modification of the historic home of the New Riga Theatre at Lāčplēša Street 25 - pile drilling, which will support the constructed part of the theatre building, informs Ronalds Neimanis, the Chairperson of the Board of the project customer – SJSC “State Real Estate”.
By now, the partial dismantling of courtyard buildings has been completed and gentle dismantling of the theatre building on the street side are performed, which includes dismantling of prefabricated reinforced concrete steps, historical parquet, spectators podium, basement partition walls, doors, heating system. 3D scanning as well as uncovering of the historical finish of walls and ceiling of the object has been carried out prior to the commencement of restoration works. According to the plan, the nearest works will be construction of zero cycle, concreting of grillage as well as the gentle dismantling works will be continued.
One of the greatest challenges – constructors have to deal without a construction site, which is characteristic of majority of traditional construction objects. A construction site cannot be created because the construction object is located at the very city centre and Lāčplēša Street presents a regular flow of pedestrians and vehicles.
Valdis Koks, the Chairperson of the Board of LLC “RERE Būve”, explains: “Taking into consideration the intense building of the city centre, which is rich of historical buildings, a gentle technology of the integration of piles is chosen, which minimises the impact on the surrounding ground. According to the project, in total 408 piles will be installed, which will support the newly constructed theatre building. Considering that some of the piles have to extend as far as the dolomite base, their length will be close to 24 metres, whereas the foundations of the existing building on the street side are planned to be strengthened during the construction works. An inseparable aspect of pile drilling process is increased level of noise, dust, vibrations and short-term traffic restrictions and, therefore, we kindly ask residents of the surrounding buildings for their understanding.”
