Insight in the process of the restoration of Madame Hoyer hotel
On Thursday, 25 October, we visited Liepāja - the small wooden house of Madame Hoyer hotel, built in the 17th century, to look back at its history, imagine the future of the building and observe the progress of the restoration works being implemented now.
As journalists were informed by the Vice-Mayor of Liepāja Gunārs Ansiņš, the project of Madame Hoyer hotel is “historically the largest funding” the local government has ever achieved to attract for a building with cultural historical value – the construction costs of Madame Hoyer hotel alone comprise EUR 2,205,177.71 (excluding VAT). It is planned to complete the object in the summer of 2020.
The Chairman of the Board of “RERE Grupa” Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš indicated that “Restoration objects are always special for our company and for me personally. We follow the activities of our restoration experts with great interest, while they uncover the historical values of the building, and we are pleased to make our contribution to the restoration of the historical heritage. We are truly glad to perform restoration works in Liepāja, in a building which has its own special historical story.
Unlike construction objects, preparatory works at restoration objects comprise a very extensive and responsible stage of works. For 2 months, in addition to the currently performed works, we perform an in-depth survey of the building, identifying and marking the historical value. We also carry out microbiological analyses in cooperation with our German colleagues, and the building rehabilitation programme is implemented – fumigation/disinfection, inspection and taking of samples of the historical painting and wallpaper, recording of volume, a 3D tour is created in the building in order to record the actual condition of the building, etc.”
Many documents have been preserved about those who stayed at the Grand Embassy in Liepāja, and not only the composition of the Embassy is known, but also what they ate, how much they ate and how much it cost.
The technical design of the future complex of the Interior Museum was developed under the management of Liesma Markova, the architect of the firm “AIG”. She took journalists for a tour on all floors of the building, showing the unique details, which have been preserved both from the 17th and 19th century, outlining the image of the future Interior Museum, and what it could be after the completion of the reconstruction and restoration works.
