1st stage of reconstruction of the Outpatient Division of Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital ”Gaiļezers” is started
In January 2016, the general partnership ”RERE BŪVE 1” launched 1st stage of reconstruction works of the Outpatient Division of Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital ”Gaiļezers” with total costs constituting 1.937 million euros and which is planned to complete until the end of November of this year.
Reconstruction works of premises of the Outpatient Division are aimed to make provision of outpatient services more accessible to outpatients and day stationary patients, facilitate receiving of all types of outpatient services by centering them in a single outpatient centre, also creating a unified information and registration centre for medical services, and to improve availability of hospital services, reducing intersection of flows of outpatients and stationary patients, and services attending them.
Overall implementation of the project will take place in four stages, without interrupting provision of hospital services to patients. During the first stage, construction of outpatient clinic premises will be implemented – reconstruction of premises necessary for provision of outpatient services on the basement floor, 1st and 2nd floor of the building, including ensuring accessibility (entrance, stairs, lifts).
On the basement floor, a cloakroom for visitors with approximately 800 spots, a cloakroom for students with approximately 150 spots, the necessary premises for trade and mail, cloakrooms for staff and various types of auxiliary premises will be located. Also a workplace for employees of the information desk will be provided on this floor.
On the 1st floor, it is planned to extend the vestibule of main stairs and to renovate office premises, also the Hippocrates sculpture will be retained at the current location in the vestibule. On the 2nd floor, all cabinets of doctors, procedure rooms, as well as pharmacies and outpatient clinics management cabinets will be reconstructed. After dismantling of the existing premises, it is planned to create a new registration desk, moving the telephone exchange alongside the dispatcher room.
After completion of this stage of works, provision of outpatient services will be ensured regardless of construction works within the next stages of the project.
The clinic ”Gaiļezers” was opened in 1979; architects of the building are A. Purviņš and V. Kadirkovs, the constructor – U. Kalderauskis. Initially, it was the most modern hospital in Latvia. Nowadays, ”Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital” is located in Hipokrāta Street 2, and was established by merging several medical institutions which previously operated separately from each other.
